Mindfulness refers to a set of techniques which involve “a conscious attempt to focus on something in a non-analytical way”. Mindfulness is a practice you can use at any moment. It simply means being more aware of your thoughts, actions, feelings, and environment. Mindfulness is a tool that is often used during meditation, but it does not require the stillness and structure that meditation does.
I often use self-compassion practices in my sessions, which include being mindful of our thoughts, feelings, and sensations with a sense of self-kindness and self-advocacy, while also acknowledging that we are not alone in our suffering.
